I realize it's alittle late to say, but Friday, I went to U2's 360 concert. How can I discribe it, perhaps...
THE. BEST. BLOODY. CONCERT. I. HAVE. EVER. BEEN. TO.
I mean, I havn't been to many concerts but this was brilliant.
My dad signed my out early from school and I practicly skipped out of the double doors to the car, so pumped. We drove out to the staduim and got a place in line, we were dead set on getting a spot in the inner circle of the stage. It started out alright, untill they started compressing the people, making room for more to get in the back, I felt like cattle, truely, and in a tempature of over 95, heat began to take it's toll. I almost passed out at one point, I was overheated, my vision was fading and I was getting dizzy. However, I was quickly able to get out of the steaming crowd to the shade of a tree where I was fine and dandy in no time. Other people did pass out though, like complete KO.
My uncle, is a police officer, and was infact, working the concert, and he called my dad during the sound check, he said he was standing right next to The Edge, and he held out his phone and we got to hear them loud and clear.
Soon enough, we got into the stadium, many were in awe at the sheer size of the set-up. Picture, a four legged arch with a big antenna-thing, lights at the top with a stage in the middle. On either side of the stage are bridged connecting to a circular runway, and those bridges can move as they please. We rushed over, and got a nice spot inner circle, about three meters from the stage and two meters from the runway.
First up was their opener, Muse. My friends were wigging out at school that I got to see them, I found it funny that they cared more about the opening band than the actual main band. I was told I'd like them, but nothing really hit me but this one son of theirs, which I havn't a clue of what it was called. One thing that impressed me was the dude's guitar at one point. That, was one shiney guitar. Really, you could literally see the light reflecting off it.
After that, of course, U2 came up. It was awsome. Their songs echoed along with voiced of the fans singing along. At some points, I was able to 'dance' without hurting myself. It was impressive.
Then, during City of Blinding Lights, Bono actually brought this Troy kid up on stage from the audience. That was truely amazing, he actually ended up giving him his sunglasses!
At times, we were only three feet from some of them. That's the closest I've ever been to one of my favourite musicians. Besides that Standing-Where-George-Harrison-Stood thing.
I was touched as they got into the more political and peaceful things, and I'm not ashamed to say I cried at times.
As well, at some point in the concert, Bono sang Blackbird. That made my night, man. The concert could'a ended right there and I would've been happy.
But it was so epic, and my dad managed to get some pretty fab pictures I'll attempt to put up.
Last, but not least, I gott a say...
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, JOHN LENNON! We'll never forget you.
